Collaborative project

Dear Colleagues,

with considerable delay, I finally describe the beer we made here in Calgary when BBB came for a visit. After days of debate and planning, we came up with an appropriate project: ShaganappIPA. The recipe was based on BBB world-renowned IPA, but with a twist. Hibiscus flowers. Letting aside some discussion on the use of american vs european hops (here at aliquot we're a little europe-centric, as odd as it might sound) and some technical errors on my part, the brewing was a great success.

After one week the beer was racked and more hibiscus flowers were added. We just bottled it and is fantastic: the strong bitterness and hop aroma are perfectly offset by maltiness and by restrained, but noticible, hibiscus flavour. The dried flowers also imparted a certain level of tartness that makes for an increadibly refreshing summer beer. This is one of our best beers ever, in terms of creativity and skill.

At Aliquot, we want sincerely thank BBB for coming over the pond and for coming up with the hibiscus idea. Also, we will be drinking this fantastic beer.

Next time, Budapest! Keep on brewing!
